Middle School Pilot Program
Good morning educators,
Congratulations on completing the 2021-22 school year and thank you for all that you did in what we know was one of the hardest years in education. We commend you for this work – thank you.
Across the district, our educators and leaders are digging deep to create the learning experiences our students need. As the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, parents and teachers alike see students struggling to engage with learning and to establish purposeful connections with each other and with school itself. As our district works to support all of our students, we see an opportunity to expand our thinking about what is possible and be creative about where, when and how learning happens. Â
In partnership with the WPS Institute, Salem Public Schools is piloting a more flexible, hands-on, and project-based middle school experience this fall for ~40 rising 8th grade students across SPS. We wanted to share this information and opportunity with all of our staff.

Here is a short summary of the pilot, recognizing there are still many details to co-design this summer. If you are interested in being one of the two teachers, the job is posted on TalentEd here. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible as hiring will move quickly. If you are interested in being in the support role that is still being finalized, please reach out to Chelsea Banks (cbanks@salemk12.org), who will be leading the pilot.
We hope your summers are off to a wonderful start!
