Hello Carlton Families,

The first two days of school have been so awesome! I am so excited to see so many returning Carlton students and our new Carlton students.

Few things that came up from teachers:

Snack:
The school offers free breakfast and free lunch. When someone does not eat their entire breakfast, any unopened non-perishable food gets put in the share basket. Unfortunately, not all students like what is in the share basket. In addition, school just started so there is not as many leftover snacks or choices. Please make sure to pack a peanut free snack if your student needs to eat a snack during the day.

Cellphones:
There are NO cellphones allowed in school. This is a district policy and Carlton will be following it. If we see students taking out their phones at any point during the school day, we will take the phone. No exceptions. Please reiterate this to your student at home.

Toys/Personal Belongings:
At Carlton, we ask that all personal belongings and toys stay at home. This means stuffed animals, footballs, blankets, trinkets, etc. There have been issues during the day because something has been lost or broken. To alleviate this, we ask that all of this stays at home. We have recess bags with all kinds of equipment that the students can use. In addition, Play Works will be coming to Carlton to help teach and play new recess games. There should be no need for home equipment at school. We appreciate all the support in monitoring this on your end.

Arrival/Dismissal:
School hours have changed. Our school day starts at 8:30 am. We would love for all students to be at school by 8:20. No student should arrive before 7:45 am as there is no adult supervision.

Dismissal has also changed. We dismiss at 2:35 pm. We start our dismissal at 2:28 pm. This means that students will not be leaving the school until close to 2:35 pm.

To clarify the pick-up procedures.

Car pick-up students come out the front door. All parents should stay in their car, follow the line of traffic, and wait for their student to be brought to their car by an adult.

Any parent that walks to the front door to pick up a student will be directed to the door on Burnside Street. That is the walker door.

To keep the cars moving in the pick-up lanes, we need to dismiss only car pick-up students. Please do not walk to the front door to pick up your student.

Transportation:
Buses tend to be late the first week of school. Please make sure to get to the bus stop 5-10 minutes before your scheduled stop time. In addition, please plan to wait for the bus for 5-10 minutes on the other end. If the bus does not come within that time frame, you can call NRT to get an ETA.

I am very sorry about the late buses this afternoon. The buses were held up at another school. They are working on the schedule and hope to resolve this quickly. Please be patient with our bus company as they work to fix the times.

New P1 Students:
P1 officially starts on Thursday, September 1, 2023. I am excited for our new students to start. If you would like to join us for coffee, please stop by the school from 7:45 am – 9:00 am.
